Empty Spaces

Empty Spaces is a series of six altered giclées (18” H x 16” W each) that evokes the way in which we seek patterns and features in unfamiliar landscapes. The underlying images in these prints come from photographs, ink drawings, and one of my scientific publications. This source material is then repeatedly transformed through digital manipulation, archival printing on paper, and photography. At the end of the process, the final prints are further embellished with pen and ink as well as needle and thread, thus effectively enacting the irrepressible practice of mapping the unknown.
